THE IGNORANCE IN THIS WORLD...
Two days ago, I organized and coordinated a rally with a few students and some faculty members in honor and remembrance of the fatal tragedy of Trayvon Martin. It was a success, I felt, and I believe we sought what we aimed to accomplish, and that is to aware my campus of what the case was what about, the racial and governmental injustice within the case and many other aspects that had to due with the case. I felt that it was totally necessary and although we maybe could have had more supporters, it was still a success and informative to those who were in attendance. However, one thing that seemed to frustrate and upset me was the fact that someone had the audacity to say something negative about it. They pretty much were going completely off opinion and jumping to many conclusions. The facts were not very well thought out and I felt that this was also necessary for me to address, so I chose to respond to this instructor in the most appropriate and intellectual way possible. I wasn't surprised that I didn't receive a rebuttal to my repsonse. I made sure that there was no coming back from it. I didn't too much make it about race (which ironically, is what she accused us of focusing on) but it also didn't surprise me that she was a Caucasian woman going against that a production put on by AFRICAN AMERICAN people. It is my duty to continue to do what I am doing even more...to go against the grain, fight the oppression and ignorant likes of pretentious and pompous individuals such as herself and others and CONTINUE to stand up for what we believe in. I don't know who she thought that she was addressing but I, nor her, was the one and had she known better she would have thought about it before she chose to give her input where it didn't belong. She was irrelevant, ignorant, and she was partially the reason why we needed to have the rally in the first place. We set out what we came to do and God has blessed and bestowed this upon me for a reason. So overall, I'm not mad anymore, because there is no way I will ever stop showing, expressing and flaunting my beautiful blackness! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
Power.
