You know how they say....?
You know how they say African American men already have two strikes against them? (The first strike of being a man, and the second for being black). Well, if that's the case, African American women must have three. The first for being a woman, the second for being black and the third for trying to survive and thrive in this misogynist sexist world. I believe that we suffer so much as a woman as it is. We are known for being an emotional species in which we are constantly ridiculed and criticized for, we have to suffer through cramps, menstruation, childbirth, abortions, and even health complications such as diabetes, heart disease, and others. In addition, we are of a powerful and yet "threatening" and oppressed race, and we will ALWAYS have inequalities with ANY man of ANY race, just because we are women. We still get paid less than them (facts), it usually takes us longer to move up the corporate (and social) ladder than a man, and overall we just aren't seen or have positions of power such as a President, CEO, Supervisor, Executive positions, etc. Hell it took us YEARS as a whole to even gain the rights to vote! Now, don't get me wrong we have made great strides throughout history as far as productivity in the female community. However, are we still being manipulated and oppressed as women and don't really know it. Well, there's no sure answer for that, but one thing is for sure is that, if that is the case, we need to make sure we are aware of it and nip it in the bud as soon as possible! This injustice that we go through needs to be put to a stop. Now, sure we have plenty of role models such as Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Queen Latifah, and Angela Bassett, but even with those many extraordinary women that have set the tone and trail blazed a legacy for us, we still need to sit back and ask ourselves...is it enough?
Power.
